  • This illustrious character is none other than the great María Moliner, Spanish librarian, archivist, philologist and lexicographer, who took no less than 15 years to write the ‘Diccionario del Uso del Español’.

Having your face on a coin is one of the greatest signs of distinction there is. Although 30% of the faces that appear on coins internationally correspond to members of royalty, there are also other personalities who manage to appear on banknotes and coins all over the world for their contributions to society, including presidents, politicians, poets and even sportsmen and women.

This list now includes a woman from Aragon, who will have her own coin as of this March. This illustrious character is none other than the great María Moliner, Spanish librarian, archivist, philologist and lexicographer, who took no less than 15 years to write the ‘Diccionario del Uso del Español’, which has two volumes and some 3,000 pages in total.

The silver coin has a value of 10 euros, although its market price exceeds this figure as it is a coveted object for numismatists and collectors. In fact, the coin is available on the Ebay platform at a starting price of 75 euros. It depicts María Moliner with an open book from which some letters emerge, together with the symbol of women and the legend of International Women's Day (8-M).
